Today we rode along the Doubs River and came to the Soane River. For the rest of the day we rode along the Soane and back to the Doubs and back to the Soane. It was a beautiful ride on beautifully paved bicycle paths. The best part of the day was that we had a strong tail wind.

The towns along the route were small and looked like so many of the other towns that we have seen already. The stone is a brownstone; the buildings look old and in disrepair but stately and defiant.

Once again, there were no restaurants or cafés along the route until we got to St-Jean-de-Losne. There we stopped at a café for lunch.

We stopped for the night at Verdun. Historically it is a place that has been overwhelmed with war and terrible fighting. Now it stands proudly on the banks of the Soane River.

Today we sit on the edge of the Soane River at a camping place in a peaceful town. There are memorials to those who died defending it from the German advance. There is a lovely campsite in the town of Verdun and there is a wonderful market where we can buy supplies. There is no restaurant or amenities at the campground.
