Packed up this morning and what looked like could be a reasonably clear, dry day. About five minutes after we started cycling out, the rain began again. We had a nice cycle through beautiful Bavarian forest on a really quite unique gravel route.

Came to the town of Lauingen. This looks like a really unique town with a lot of beautiful buildings. There is a church tower which is painted elaborately. Certainly deserved some time for exploring. Had a late breakfast/lunch waiting for the rain to let up.

We traveled through beautiful scenery of forest and farm country in Bavaria, but it was difficult to appreciate as the rain continued throughout the day. Several times we had to stop and hide under trees, bridges, any place we could find shelter as the rain was coming down so heavy.

When we got to Gunzburg, it was still raining and we decided to take a room rather than go another 8 km to the campsite which was not an organized site but just a place to set up tents… Setting up camp in the rain is not particularly fun and we didn’t want to take the chance that another rainstorm would come as thunder was crashing all around us.

We went into the old center of Gunzburg which is an absolutely lovely street. Can’t believe how wonderfully artistic these homes are in these buildings are from this earlier period of time.

We were lucky to find a hotel for 60 Euro. Many of the lodgings were full because this is the August summer travel season. However, it seemed to us, that with all the rain that has been occurring this summer there would be less tourism. Still several hotels were full.
