Morning broke very cold with clouds still hanging in the air. We were dry in our basement campsite, but definitely not warm. We packed up slowly, hoping to experience a rise in temperature. Anne had on all her clothes in her pack!

Finally underway by 11:00, we went to the post office to pickup Anne’s medicine. But, they sent it back to Vienna after holding it only one week. They told us that in Germany there is no General Delivery for packages. Anne told them that in Vienna the Post said they would keep it for three weeks; our man in Donauworth just shrugged his shoulders and said sorry. He sent it back yesterday.

Oh well, as long as we forward it again, she still has medicine with her. Seems odd that Germany, one of the leaders in the EU, would have a different policy from the other countries. Guess it is like States Rights!

Donauworth has a charming and lovely old village which is well worth spending time. Because of the heavy rain all yesterday we decided to move on again. It’s supposed to rain again throughout the week and we have to make some progress each day.

It was not a spectacular ride from Donauworth to Dillingen, but it was absolutely lovely paving. We cruised along even though there was a strong headwind. We took photos of cyclists coming our way instead of church towers.

In one town, we happened upon a Beer Garden which had live traditional music playing and an excellent buffet for a very inexpensive price. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch there of pork with mushroom sauce. We have noticed that the German people have these gatherings all week long, perhaps only in summer, but they are very busy social gatherings.

The remainder of the day was purely enjoyable cycling primarily because of the smooth roads and the fact that it was not raining. There was a lovely church in Hochstadt, but most of the day was through picturesque Bavarian farm country or forest.

Dillingen is another treasure town. The historic buildings are beautifully maintained. They ooze with charm.

The campground in Dillingen is a small campground, but it is right on the bicycle path on the Danube. They have a restaurant and it looks like dry spaces for people to hang out on these rainy days that we been having.

Sure enough, at 6 pm, the skies cut loose with another torrent of rain.
