The gravel path started again right from camp. Some of the ramps along this Dike route were quite steep with thick gravel. As we approached Inglostadt, there was industrial infrastructure along the bike path.

We had a pretty easy time going through Ingolstadt, because we did not choose to go into the big part of the city; the bike path was fairly straightforward following the Danube in and out of the city.

It was after we got out of Ingolstadt that the real fun began. We got lost again but this time we found an absolutely charming route through some horse country. As much as we have been trying to avoid the gravel roads, we took a small road following bicycle paths to Knolgerfreude by mistake. Instead of backtracking, we could see a small country road that would lead to Oberschweig which would put us back on the main route.

It went through horse country on a very muddy, potholed road that was absolutely beautiful. We lucked out and saw some beautiful horses in the pastures and riding on this road. Two young ladies on their lovely ponies stopped for a photo. It was slow going, but it was quite charming to ride through this little country road.

We have learned from other cyclists that there are other maps out there that show bicycle routes all over the country, not just the Euro Velo route. We think carrying a map like that would be very useful because sometimes taking a side trip can be a lot of fun. These maps are mostly in German language, but we looked at one ladies map and it had so many symbols on it that were universal we thought the map would serve us well. We shall have to investigate more of these maps, but we know they are not available on Amazon.com in America. We stopped for lunch in Weichering which is on the bicycle route at a guest house with a beer garden.
From there it’s a fairly short jaunt to Neuburg, our destination for the day.

From Ingolstadt to Neuburg was much more interesting than the first half of the cycling today. The bicycle path went through pretty countryside.

A nice paved route went to the hunting palace at Grunau. Wow! It was built for the wife of Graf Ottheinrich. I asked Mike if he wanted to buy it for me, but he said we probably couldn’t find the kitchen so we better not buy it.

Neuburg campground at the boating club has a view of the Neuburg Palace to die for. We set up our tent in full view of the Danube and the Palace. The boating club campground filled up with cyclists and boaters. The club has 500 members who kayak and row on the Danube. The Facilities are a bit old, but very close to the old city.

What a wonderful town to explore.
